You get home from a long day at work and turn on the TV. It’s been a long week, so you think to yourself- maybe i’ll take the family to a movie on Saturday. Maybe we’ll even go on a vacation soon! We could visit museums and go to plays and see all sorts of fun attractions.
When you turned the TV on, nothing happened. There are no actors to entertain you.
When you went to the movie theater, nothing was showing. There were no advertisements to tell you that anything was showing, so you went to the theater to find out. Nothing playing. There is no one to film and create movies for you. Well at least your vacation will be fun, right? Not like there will be any plays to see and there won’t be anything in the art museums.
Well at least you have the shack you are living in that you made out of cardboard and sheets.
Not like you could find an architect to build you a house with all the money you’re making as an engineer.
sorry i can’t hear you over the sound of scientific progress

So it wasn’t just me, then?
Good to know.
Hey, what’s behind this door—

Oh.

You.

Can’t we just talk instead of fight?

Or at least maybe fuck? That’s always a fun option.

A simple “no” would have been fine, but I guess that works too.
Answer:
Depends how you play it, really.
In my experience, fetch quests don’t really happen. I mean, you pick them up and listen to people talk, but when it comes down to it most of the “padding” is streamlined pretty well. When I took Mahariel down into Orzammar, I ran around and grabbed all the quests I could in the city, and then took off into the Deep Roads as the main quest wanted. I ended up taking care of half of the sidequests just along the way without taking much detour.
On the other hand, you could just be asking about the beginning of the game. In which case…
The game’s story goes like this:
Origin Story -> Ostagar -> Fix Shit To Fulfill Treaties -> Denerim Stuff -> War Against Darkspawn
The first two steps are relatively short, the middle step is long as fuck since each treaty is effectively its own arc in the story, and the last two are fairly short in comparison.
Most people seem to find their own section that they really enjoy, you know? A lot of people have the Dwarf Origins (both of them) as their favorite part in the whole game. Others favor the tragedy at Ostagar, and many find a particular satisfaction in dealing with The Landsmeet in Denerim.
My personal favorite parts are when things start to get bone-chilling. (Tip: Play through The Dead Trenches alone at night, and turn off the captions.) First day, they come and catch everyone. Second day, they beat us and eat some for meat…
When it comes down to it, though, the thing most people like about the game is all the choices that are offered. You have to remember that not all of the game-changing choices are given in the main quests, but that a lot of “padding and fetch quests” provide choices, too. Some of the sidequests are choices in and of themselves, like that whole thing with the Chantry in Orzammar. Whether or not you complete it is up to you, but it does change a few things about the world around you. Others are direct changes for characters that offer new dialogue in conversations if you complete them. Failing to bring Alistair to his sister changes the a significant part of The Landsmeet.
So no, it doesn’t ever just magically happen to be REALLY GOOD all of a sudden. It’s more like the experience as a whole is greater than the sum of it’s parts, yeah? You as the player and as the character are quite literally making history in this world.
Don’t mind me, though, I can ramble all day. Did that at least help in some way, or…? XD
#The Adventures of Naked Mahariel #dragon age
Hey, what’s all the commotion about? Did they finally invent the vibrator?
Look, guy, you didn’t have to open the door and attack us just because we were fuckin’. I mean, we clearly knew it would bother you, but you didn’t have to try and kill us.
Thanks for openin’ the door, though.
(Unfortunately, bisexuals have no conscious control over this reflex so it may occasionally be set off in response to good-humoured, ironic comments or genuine discussion on this topic.)
…I wonder how many laptops are now coated in purple gunk?
I feel kinda bad for the bystanders around people who were checking tumblr in like coffee shops or something.
Ah I see. I wouldn’t know as I don’t own Dragon Age. I’m still waiting for it to be dirt cheap to buy (probably second hand).
Piiiiiracyyyyyyy~
Seriously though, I bought my copy of DA2 for literally twenty bucks about two months ago, so you could probably buy a copy of DA:O for about that (or less). That’s if you care about the moral ramifications of piracy, of course. If you don’t, then send me an ask and I’ll hand you a link to a torrent.
Wait, are you telling me that you have absolutely no “sex improvement” mods installed? There are quite a few of them.
As lame as it sounds, I don’t actually care. I’ve installed ‘em before, but in my eyes virtual sex is always going to be kind of bad. There’s nothing you can really do about that.
If you were wondering, I did have ‘em installed when the sex scenes rolled around, but they still weren’t worth screenshots.
